The Alba white truffle season and how to reach the table

Every autumn the Langhe hills of Piedmont, a UNESCO-listed vineyard landscape, turn towards a single ingredient. The Alba white truffle cannot be farmed, only found, which is why its season is felt across the whole region.

When the season runs

The Alba White Truffle Fair usually runs from early October into early December, and the truffles are found from autumn into early winter. Weather matters more than the calendar. A dry summer or a warm autumn can move the best weeks, so plans are made close to the date.

How a truffle is judged

A white truffle is judged by aroma first and size second. On the Langhe, buyers and chefs smell before they look. A well kept truffle loses its scent within days, so the distance between the forest floor and your plate is the true measure of quality.

How KURA arranges the table

Through trusted relationships with local hunters and kitchens, KURA introduces a morning in the woods with a hunter and his dogs, followed by a private table where the truffle is shaved fresh. Availability depends on the season and is never guaranteed.

How long to stay

Three nights in the Langhe is the minimum for the truffle season to feel unhurried: one for arrival, one for the hunt and a private table, and one for the cellars. A longer stay lets you add the coast, where the pace and the light are entirely different.

Who it suits

The Langhe suit guests who love food and wine and who prefer to meet the people behind them. It is a landscape of small family estates, not grand hotels, and the best moments come from conversation, not from a schedule.

Beginning the conversation

Tell your concierge when you hope to travel, and whether the truffle is the centre of the journey or one chapter of it. We will say honestly what the season allows, and plan the days around the weeks when the woods are at their best.
